1st Grade Social Studies

First grade social studies focuses on the immediate world children can see—family, classroom, neighborhood, and simple maps. Our 1st Grade Social Studies collection curates vetted, secular resources for homeschoolers, afterschooling families, and caregivers teaching children around ages 6–7. You’ll find story-based curricula, picture books about communities and helpers, simple map and globe activities, and gentle introductions to holidays and traditions that honor diverse cultures. Every resource is reviewed for developmental appropriateness, inclusive representation, and opportunities for conversation, play, and pretend. Use the filters to explore by focus (family and community, helpers, maps and places, or traditions), format (books, unit studies, printables, or simple games), and learning needs such as ADHD, autism, sensory sensitivities, or 2e. Many families weave first grade social studies into daily life and read-aloud time using materials from this collection. If you’re wondering how much formal social studies your first grader needs, Modulo’s AI learning concierge can suggest a gentle approach that fits your child.
