Designed for grades 6–12 to support current events, civics, and media literacy work

PBS NewsHour Classroom pairs segments from the PBS NewsHour with lesson plans, discussion questions, and background readings for middle and high school students. Topics range from elections and international conflicts to science, culture, and media literacy, updated regularly to reflect current events. Teachers and homeschoolers value the reliability of PBS reporting and the built-in scaffolding that makes complex stories more accessible. It’s best for grades 6–12 and works particularly well in civics, social studies, and English courses. Video and reading levels can be challenging, so previewing and pausing for context is key. Used thoughtfully, it helps students develop habits of following and analyzing the news, not just consuming it.

News lessons, videos, and lesson plans are free to access online for students and teachers in grades 6–12.
