My mission

There is nothing quite like seeing a struggling student overcome their academic challenges with my help. I have worked with students that were failing school, at risk of dropping out, and witnessed a miraculous turn-around in their lives. Many others needed a boost of confidence, and a little bit of support and encouragement to reach their full potential. This is what inspires me to tutor!

My Story

I was born in Brooklyn, New York, and was raised on Long Island. My wife and I moved to Florida in December 2020. I became a teacher because of the good advice of a guitar teacher I had as a teenager. I wanted to be a musician but he encouraged me to to go to college and get a degree in music education, in case my musical career aspiration did not work out as planned. That advice changed my life, and I am forever grateful to him for being there for me at a critical juncture in my life!

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

I have taught children that are gifted to those with learning disabilities, including ADD, ADHD, Autism, and others.

I have worked with some 2e children. I need to concentrate on helping them with the areas they struggle with, and at the same time, build up their strengths. Praise and positive reinforcement can be a successful strategy to motivate and encourage them.

I have worked with some very gifted children, some as young as kindergarten. They can be a joy to work with when they are cooperative and not bored with learning. I enjoy gifted students. They need positive feedback, praise, and sometimes correction to further cultivate their intellectual gifting.

For ADHD students, they often need to be motivated to want to learn, and help with focusing. They need frequent breaks, and may have short attention spans. All children can learn, but not all at the same rate and in the same way.

I have worked with Autism Spectrum disorder students successfully. They need to build relationships with me that are non-threatening, and lessons must be tailored to their individual needs. They need to feel safe and secure with their teacher. Praise for accomplishments goes a long way with many of them.

I have worked with some students with mild forms of dyslexia. They need patient correction, instruction, and encouragement to form letters and numbers correctly. Helping them improve their reading can help them overcome dyslexia.
