My mission

My mission is to make learning accessible and enjoyable for everyone. What inspires me to tutor is seeing students gain confidence and realize that learning can actually be enjoyable and empowering.

My Story

I grew up in a beach city which is supposedly the city with more scientists in Mexico, and studied Biology because I’ve always been curious about how life works, the environment and our interaction with it. After finishing my degree, I worked as environmental consultant, then became a high school teacher, and that’s when I discovered how much I enjoy explaining complex ideas and sharing my knowledge to help others question and discover about themselves and the natural system they live in. During this teaching period, I studied my master's degree in Sustainable Development.

Over the years, and practicing several arts, I encountered different kinds of teachers (dancing, swimming, science, language) and even though I learned with every one mostly because of self-pride, I preferred the teachers that respected my pace, challenged me in a respectful way, and made me feel in a confident environment, so I decided to be a teacher that makes students feel confident to ask questions and make mistakes so they can explore their curiosity.

I like traveling, learning new languages, and exploring other cultures — all of which inspire the examples I use in class.

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

In high school we've had students with asperger, autism and autism spectrum, even anxiety or depression. Instructions with them are different then with the rest of the class and sometimes needed personal approach, guidance and monitoring of progress. We always received instructions from the psychology department depending on the student's diagnosis.

I would say clear instructions with clear step by step expected outcome is key. Keeping their mind busy, challenges.

There was a particular student, he was verbal but spoke very little and preferred English, and I provided with step-by-step instructions by reading and then corroboration by speaking, and we advanced paced like with follow up of his progress. One day I made a question to the group, and for the first time he raised his hand, and gave his opinion, and for me that was a major achievement for the both of us.

My students with dislexia have had very different learning styles, also they were different ages. One was leaning more towards anxiety and the other to ADHD, the second one represented the bigger challenge for me. It was difficult to maintain him entertained while in a big class, but was focused and demonstrated leadership when we did experiments or kinesthetic activities.
