Angi is an award-winning math educator with a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education, an M.S. in Mathematics, and a B.A. in Mathematics and Music. With decades of teaching and tutoring experience, she helps students achieve deep, lasting understanding of math through a structured, inquiry-based approach. Angi specializes in working with gifted and twice-exceptional learners, breaking down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps while maintaining intellectual challenge. A passionate advocate for mathematical confidence, she believes every student is capable of mastery. When not teaching, she loves singing jazz and exploring patterns in music and numbers.

Monday – Thursday 6am – 4pm CST

My teaching approach moves beyond simple homework completion to deliver deep, sustainable mastery of mathematics concepts and skills. I use a rigorous, evidence-based, holistic strategy to identify and address the root cause of the struggle in a student's understanding. This method focuses on reinforcing foundational knowledge to build new knowledge, turning tricky concepts into real, lasting mastery.

PhD in Mathematics Education (University of Missouri)
MS in Mathematics (Ohio University)
BA in Mathematics and Music (Bluffton University), with secondary mathematics teaching certification

I started tutoring classmates and their siblings in high school. I continued tutoring in college. Once I started teaching, I ran an after-school program for students needing additional math support and offered classes for parents of students to become familiar with the math their students were learning. I still tutor friends and family taking college math courses.

My mission

I am deeply motivated by transforming a student's relationship with math, moving them from being told they "couldn't do math" to achieving "genuine confidence" and academic success.

My Story

Growing up in Ohio, I was one of those rare students who loved math. That early passion quickly became a calling to become a teacher—not just to teach "rules," but to help others develop genuine mathematical knowledge and skills. A key lesson I learned early in my career as a high school math teacher shaped my approach: I was working with a student who struggled with multi-digit multiplication. He knew the basic facts but kept applying an incorrect process when multiplying multi-digit numbers. For example, when multiplying 17 by 3, he knew 7 times 3 is 21, but he would write the 2 in the ones place of the answer and “carry” the 1. He would repeat this process each time he multiplied without understanding the significance of the place value of each number. That moment taught me a powerful lesson: number sense is the true, non-negotiable foundation of mathematical learning. Since then, I've become a passionate number enthusiast, seeking to see number relationships everywhere. (How many people do you know who use math to remember their hotel room number?) This unique passion for connecting numbers in the real world underlies what I bring to my teaching. I don't just teach rules; I help students discover deep, practical mathematical connections that last a lifetime.

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

I believe that everyone is capable of doing mathematics. While this might look different given an individual's experiences with math, finding the connection that supports each person's mathematical development is the key to helping them unlock their potential.

My approach is ideally suited for twice-exceptional (2e) students because it addresses both their gift and their learning challenge. I understand that these bright students often lose focus when the work becomes repetitive or isn't challenging enough. I maintain the academic challenge they need to stay engaged by keeping the depth of the content high, which in turn stimulates the student mentally. At the same time, I structure the learning by taking big, tough topics and breaking them down into small, manageable steps—a critical technique for supporting focus and helping them succeed.

My teaching approach is dedicated to providing the deep academic challenge that exceptional students need to truly thrive. I use a diagnostic approach to meet your child exactly where they are—whether they are excelling and need advanced content, or struggling due to boredom or perfectionism. I take complex topics and ensure the instruction maintains a high level of rigor and intellectual depth, which is essential for engaging a gifted mind. While I break down concepts into manageable segments to ensure clarity, my primary focus is on accelerating their learning, preventing conceptual stagnation, and transforming their unique potential into sustained mathematical mastery.

My approach to teaching math is simple: I don't just help with homework; I help your child build real, lasting confidence in themselves as a doer of mathematics. For struggling learners, I act like a detective, finding the root cause of any confusion, instead of treating just the symptoms. For all learners, I take big, tough topics and break them down into small, manageable steps—which is especially helpful for kids who struggle to focus.

My teaching approach is dedicated to providing the clarity and systematic structure that is essential for every student, especially those on the autism spectrum. I avoid the frustration of traditional teaching by acting like a detective, finding the root cause of the struggle for those who are confused, or ensuring the content is deep and complex enough for those who are excelling. I take complex topics and break them down into a series of small, logical, and manageable steps—a predictable framework that greatly reduces anxiety and supports sustained focus.
