Listening, speaking, reading, and writing are the core elements of language learning. In my classes, I make sure students practice all four skills every time we meet. I believe rote memorization is not the most effective way to learn, so I prefer to use example sentences or stories to help students understand, rather than relying on memorization alone. When introducing new vocabulary, I use example sentences to show how the word is applied, and I ask students to create their own sentences as well.

For beginners, I often use a bilingual approach to help them find the correct pronunciation and build confidence. As their proficiency grows, I gradually shift to using more Chinese instead of relying on their native language. With advanced students, I teach entirely in Chinese to help them develop a “Chinese mindset” and practice thinking in Chinese without depending on translation.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from Yu Da University of Science and Technology in Taiwan. To further sharpen my teaching skills, I regularly use online learning platforms to improve both the accuracy and effectiveness of my instruction. I also engage in professional communities for Chinese language teachers, where I exchange ideas, resources, and teaching experiences.

In terms of formal teaching, I have over eight years of experience in both online and in-person settings. I have taught students from a wide range of countries, with proficiency levels ranging from absolute beginners to advanced learners, and ages spanning from five to eighty.

Outside of formal classes, I often help my international friends practice speaking and casually teach their children everyday vocabulary and phrases. I also support their kids with school assignments and writing tasks when needed.

My mission

I love learning languages and teaching others. Working with students of different ages and nationalities has shown me how rewarding teaching Chinese can be. Seeing them use Chinese in daily life and work gives me great encouragement.

My Story

I grew up in Taiwan, and my love for Chinese started in high school, inspired by my Chinese literature teacher. This passion led me to study Teaching Chinese as a Second Language in college. After graduation, by chance, I began working at an international organization. They noticed my academic background and asked me to teach Chinese classes based on students’ proficiency levels. This opportunity marked the start of my career in teaching Chinese.

Today, I continue to enjoy sharing my love for languages with students of all ages and nationalities. I also love things that are old and finely crafted—they always catch my attention. I enjoy watching historical TV series and movies, especially when the costumes reflect the era. I adore plants and dream of turning my home into a greenhouse where friends and family can enjoy a space that blends nature and architecture. I also love interacting with children and learning about their growth and experiences.

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

I know that no two students think or learn in exactly the same way. Some need more step-by-step guidance, while others enjoy challenges that push them beyond the textbook. When I teach, I try to adapt to what works best for that particular student—sometimes using visuals, sometimes stories, or sometimes lots of practice and repetition.

I’ve also had the chance to work with children who learn differently, and I’ve seen how important it is to celebrate small wins and build confidence. For gifted students, I like to give them creative projects or advanced materials so they can keep growing.

For students who are gifted in learning Chinese, I adapt my teaching to challenge their abilities while keeping them engaged. Once their language proficiency reaches a certain level, I switch to full Chinese instruction and communication, encouraging them to think directly in the language rather than translating from their native language.

In terms of classroom design, I provide advanced challenges, such as:
• Reading and analyzing full-length articles or stories, then discussing the content in depth.
• Translating longer texts or culturally rich materials to strengthen comprehension and writing skills.
• Encouraging creative projects, like writing short essays, scripts, or even creating mini-presentations in Chinese.
• Exploring idioms, proverbs, and nuanced language usage to deepen understanding.

These strategies help gifted students continue to grow, maintain their interest, and refine both their language and critical thinking skills in Chinese.

I do not have direct experience teaching students with ADHD. For online lessons, I would try to support focus by using short, varied activities and incorporating interactive tools when possible. I would also consider visual cues, brief breaks, and positive feedback, while observing what works best for each student and adjusting accordingly.
