Luka is a dynamic Chinese tutor who uses CLIL, role-play, and discussion to turn vocabulary into real-world skills. With a BA in Chinese Literature and forthcoming MA in Applied Linguistics, plus 12 years at TAL with multiple national teaching awards, Luka adapts materials for ADHD, dyslexia, and gifted learners using bite-size texts, clear timers, and highly interactive tasks. Lessons are student-centered, structured, and fun. When not teaching, Luka runs long-distance, reads sci-fi, cooks, and practices tango.

I believe that different teaching methods should be uesed for different learners and classrooms.
I think being student-centered and communicative are important in language classes. I use the CLIL approach very extensively in my classroom. My lessons are filled with interactive activities like role-playing and group discussions on real-life topics.

For example, instead of just teaching food vocabulary, I might have students role-play ordering food in a restaurant. This helps them use the language practically and build confidence.

I also use a variety of assessments techniques like quick quizzes to understand each student's progress and adjust my lessons accordingly. My ultimate goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable practicing and making mistakes.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Chinese literature from capital normal university
And I am expecting to get my master’s degree in applied linguistics next summer from Renmin University

I have been tutoring in the biggest China’s leading youth education institution TAL for 12years.I have been recognized as an outstanding teacher for ten consecutive years. I have also developed summer camps programs for TAL.

My mission

The reason I want to become a teacher is that my middle school teacher showed me how fun and fascinating learning can be. In China, many students are under tremendous pressure, and attending tutoring classes is often seen as something only for those who struggle academically. I hope to change this perception—I want my students to see learning as something truly enjoyable, to discover their own potential, and to become more curious and interested in gaining knowledge.

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

I believe that first and foremost, every child has their own unique way of learning. Based on each student's individual learning style, you can continuously adapt your teaching methods and lesson plans.

For example, I had a young student in my class who had a highly imaginative and associative way of thinking. He enjoyed talking about topics that were not only related to the lesson but also more engaging and creative. So, in a writing class, instead of asking him to “describe your own bedroom,” I changed the assignment to “describe a bedroom of your imagination.” He responded much more enthusiastically to this kind of topic.

I have a student whom I've taught for five years. He is a child with dyslexia, but at the same time, he has a highly active mind and enjoys exploring diverse perspectives on a given topic. To accommodate his learning characteristics—particularly his dyslexia I adapted his reading materials by breaking full passages into shorter segments. This allowed him to read one section at a time, a length he felt comfortable with, and then gradually express his understanding of each part. This method significantly supported his learning.

However, based on my experience, identifying that a child might be twice-exceptional can be challenging initially, especially if parents haven’t mentioned it in earlier communication. It often takes several classes for a teacher to recognize such traits.

For younger kids
Before the lesson
1.Suggest the child gets 5-10 minutes of physical activity right before the lesson to help them settle.
2.prepare videos or toys for each class.
3. To get to know the students and learn about their interests
During the lesson
1.Maximize Interaction
Set a mental timer.Every two minutes, the child should do something: answer a question, type in the chat, draw on the whiteboard, give a thumbs up.
2.Use interactive tools
Set up a reward system on the computer. Let them draw on the shared screen. And organized activities which allow them to stand up sit down or go find things in their house.

For older children
it's essential to provide very clear instructions and set specific time limits. This helps them understand exactly what is expected and how long they have to complete each task.
Another crucial point is to allow them to move during the process.
Additionally, you can break longer reading passages into shorter segments for easier comprehension, and divide extended writing assignments into smaller, manageable parts.
When teaching grammar, involve them in thinking and exploring rather than just lecturing.
