I try to make sure the student is comfortable, this is a no-judgment zone! No question is stupid, and there is no shame here. My sessions are usually pretty positive and we really celebrate those successes and learn from our mistakes (and EVERYONE has mistakes). Also, I try to have my students become self-sufficient. One of my greatest joys as a tutor is to see a student say "I don't need you." It's pretty cool to see them grow in their capabilities and confidence.

Subject Expertise

My mission

I love to see students grow, both academically and in their self-confidence. I get great joy seeing students excel through those tough times.

My Story

I was always academically gifted, sadly usually achieving the highest scores in the class. Until Caltech, that is - those folks are very gifted. That was when my mental health issues really came to light (a very commonplace thing at higher ed places). But I've overcome that, grown immensely, and love to see students grow themselves.

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

As a self-described nerd, I love figuring out what works and what doesn't for each student. I've tutored students who are not as academically gifted and students who are so gifted they were way smarter than me (Caltech here we come!). One big piece of this to have patience, be realistic on what can be done, and celebrate when we have those good days!

I've tutored many students with ADHD, and my wife of 10 years is also ADHD (keeps life exciting!)
