When teaching, I use the guided work approach. I will show you how to apply the formula, or how to solve the equation. Then, I will have you solve some as well. If you seem to be struggling, then I will explain the material a different way. If you understand, then we will move on. I want to balance the amount of practice you have with your skill level, so you practice what you need to know.

I have my MA in Teaching from the University of Central Missouri. I also have my BA in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Kansas City, Missouri. I have 18 extra graduate hours in Math from Emporia State, which allows me to teach dual credit in my state.

I have been tutoring since high school. I have been tutoring students who were studying for the SAT and ACT. I have also tutored adults working towards on the ASVAB or their GED. I have taught math in the classroom for grades 5-12 over the past 23 years.

My mission

I want to help students understand that math isn't mysterious or confusing. The numbers make sense, there is always a correct answer, and there may even be multiple ways to get to that answer! I want students to find the method that works best for them, and be able to use those skills on other problems in the future!

My Story

I am born and raised in Kansas City, Go Chiefs!! I am a lucky mother to 3 amazing children! My son is a coding savant, he taught himself how to code and received his BS in computer science. He now makes a lot more money than I do! My daughter is 23, she is a bit of a free spirit, and she is working on settling down with her boyfriend and their dog. My youngest is in 7th grade and she is a dancer! I am so proud of her motivation and drive, she is always working to improve herself! I am taking classes at Avila University to further my math/teaching education! I love to learn!

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

I can help identify learning gaps due to Covid or any other reason. I can help students review materials that they are struggling with, or I can help identify and encourage enrichment activities.

I have had several 2e students in my classroom over the past 23 years. I believe they are extremely gifted and they soak up information easily. Sometimes they may have a strong personality, but I love getting to know these students!

I have had many gifted students over the years. I was in the gifted program myself, growing up. I know how to identify the need for enrichment, when students are ready to move on.

I have worked with profoundly gifted students in the past, I myself was very close to profoundly gifted as well. This gives me the intelligence, empathy, curiosity, and drive to work with your students to be the best that they can be!

I have had many students that have ADHD in my classrooms over the years. My own children have this diagnosis as well.

Many students on the spectrum are exceptional learners. I identify as being on the spectrum myself.

My own daughter is dyslexic, and I have had many students with dyslexia over the years. I can help students work on ordering the information in their heads.

I have had students who are deaf, blind, mute, and other diverse sensory processing challenges in the past. I myself struggle to hear out of one ear. I believe everyone is capable of learning, our sensory issues should not impede on that ability!
