My educational approach to teaching is to be confident in the content area and keep exploring new ways to execute the content. Also, get on the students level to ensure they too are confident in their work. Use of positive reinforcement is helpful.

My mission

I am inspired to tutor because I want students to feel confident in their work and around their peers. Children should not feel insecure because they are not making the same grades or achievements as their counterparts. If I can help make a difference in any way then that is what I am here to do. I want to understand what the famiiy and child's needs are and tailor lessons accordingly. I

My Story

I was born and raised in the Bronx, NY. I recently moved to Tampa, Florida. I am still trying to learn the area and meet new people. My upbringing and education was pleasant. I went to Catholic school and my Caribbean parents pushed me to work hard in school and at any job. I had a couple of high school teachers who I looked up to. Mostly because I went to a very large high school but these teachers noticed me at an individual and for my talents, rather than just another student. When I first started college I was a nursing major. That didn't feel like my passion. I thought maybe I should become a teacher. At the time, there weren't many teachers in my family. Now there is a great amount of us. Since I have stated teaching there has been no looking back. There are times when I think I want to change careers but I've decided I wouldn't enjoy anything else as much as I enjoy teaching. Maybe tutoring on a regular basis will come close.

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

I have not worked with many students who are gifted but I ramp up the rigor for those students who may be advanced. For students with learning differences I want to get to know if they have and IEP and teach/tutor from that. If there is no concrete evidence of a learning difference I will work or create lessons bases on noticeable capabilities. There will be more visual aides, chunking and scaffolding.

I don't have much experience here.

I don't have much experience here.

I have experience working with students with ADHD, modifying assignments for them, giving them breaks when necessary, and adhering to their testing and assignment times.

I have experience with a co-teaching model. In which there is one general and one special education teacher. I have worked closely with students on the autism spectrum, wrote IEP's and attended IEP meetings.

have had students with dyslexia. It was mostly the special education teacher or the director of special education who mostly created plans for these students but I modified the work according to their capabilities.

I want to know exactly what the student is struggling with and make sure they have what they need to be successful. For example, fidget spinners, preferential seating, headphones or timers.
