Smarter Balanced

Smarter Balanced is a consortium that designs standardized tests aligned with Common Core math and ELA standards for many U.S. states. For homeschoolers, its main relevance is the practice tests and released items that show what state assessments actually look like. Parents appreciate being able to preview question formats and rigor, especially if their children may re-enter public school or must test for accountability. The materials are free, but the style can be dry and test‑driven, so we recommend using them sparingly as a checkup, not as day‑to‑day curriculum. They’re best suited to older elementary through high school.
