Critikid - Critical Thinking for Kids

Recommended Ages
Even adults have told me they enjoy the content! It often turns into a family activity.

Ages 5-18

Critikid.com, founded by educator Stephanie Simoes, offers families practical tools to help kids and teens build critical thinking skills. We provide self-paced, interactive courses on logical fallacies, data analysis, symbolic logic, emotional intelligence, and media literacy, as well as ready-to-use worksheets, puzzles, and lesson plans for parents and educators. Critikid's goal is not to tell students what to think, but to give them a toolkit they can use to wisely navigate a confusing world.

Critikid is for kids who like puzzles, stories, and tackling big ideas. Really, all kids need to learn critical thinking, since we all make reasoning mistakes. It’s especially valuable for families that want resources that go beyond memorization. Many parents tell me they’ve learned from it, too!

Pros

Families love that Critikid makes abstract concepts like logical fallacies and media literacy clear, engaging, and age-appropriate. The courses are self-paced and flexible, so kids can work independently. Parents also appreciate the affordability and the fact that many find themselves learning alongside their kids.

"This [Fallacy Detectors] was so easy to comprehend for my child and was so engaging both us parents did it together with him. It took us by surprise how much he enjoyed it and how eager he was to point out fallacies through the coming weeks after. I highly recommend this and look forward to more content."

Cons

Some parents wish Critikid offered more built-in tracking of student progress or adaptive lessons that adjust automatically to a child’s level. A few teachers note that it isn’t integrated into common learning management systems, which can make classroom use less seamless. I’m also still a small, growing project, so new content takes time to release.

Most of Critikid's interactive courses are priced at 15 USD, and most worksheet or lesson plan packs are 10 USD. Families can also purchase discounted bundles that combine courses and worksheets. We also offer a homeschool half-credit curriculum for 80 USD.

Our mission

These days, we have access to more information than ever before, but lack the ability to properly evaluate it. We can interact with more people than ever, but have trouble communicating effectively. Critikid's goal is to give kids and teens the skills they need to rationally think about and discuss controversial and complex issues without telling them the conclusions they should draw.

Our story

As a science teacher with a philosophy background, I saw firsthand that children not only understand ideas like logical fallacies and cognitive biases, but they’re excited to learn about them. I started Critikid after noticing how few resources existed to help teach kids about this stuff. With my husband handling the web design, I hired a freelance animator and released the first course, Fallacy Detectors. Since then, Critikid has expanded to include many more resources, but it is still a small, bootstrapped family project.

FAQ: Additional Details about Critikid - Critical Thinking for Kids

Imagine your child sitting down at the computer and clicking "play." A short, three-minute video begins: animated characters aboard a spaceship launch into a story, and one of them makes a reasoning mistake. Your child leans in, listening to the dialogue and watching the scene unfold, then answers a few quiz questions to spot the fallacy. Next, they’re asked to create their own short story where a character commits the same type of fallacy. Then it’s on to the next lesson, where the adventure continues with a new fallacy and fresh challenges. At the end of the adventure, kids complete a chat-style quiz that pulls together everything they’ve learned in the journey. For families who want to extend learning, parents can use the matching lesson plans and worksheets filled with extra examples, activities, and discussion prompts to make fallacies part of real-world conversations.

Critikid is a digital platform with self-paced video lessons, interactive activities, and printable resources. Kids can log in on their own or with a parent and work through courses. Each course includes built-in activities and quizzes. Parents and educators often use the lesson plans and worksheets to integrate the material into a broader curriculum. For a more structured option, we also offer a homeschool half-credit curriculum hosted on Canvas, which combines Critikid lessons with outside readings and assignments.

For our interactive courses, parent involvement isn’t required. Kids can work through the short videos, activities, and quizzes independently. That said, many parents enjoy watching along and using the lessons as conversation starters.

For our lesson plans and the homeschool curriculum, parent or educator involvement is important.

Critikid is a strong fit for gifted children. The material challenges them with abstract concepts while the story-based, gamified format keeps it engaging. Because lessons are self-paced, kids can move quickly through what they grasp right away and spend more time on trickier ideas.

I also designed Critikid from the perspective of someone who grew up gifted myself, so I understand both the excitement and the challenges that come with asynchronous development.

We offer a 30-Day Money Back Guarantee: If you're not satisfied with your purchase, request a full refund within 30 days by emailing refund@critikid.com from the same email address you used for your purchase. We’ll process your refund promptly — no questions asked. While feedback is appreciated, it is not required for your refund to be approved.

Critikid may not be the best fit for families looking for traditional test-prep or programs that closely track measurable outcomes over time. Our focus is on active exploration and discussion rather than standardized assessments. While we do include quizzes and a grading system in the homeschool curriculum, we don’t provide the kind of detailed progress tracking or adaptive lessons some other programs offer.

For families who want more structured tracking of student progress (and a fully screen-free program), The Critical Thinking Co. offers workbook-based options. For problem-solving with measurable progress and adaptive learning, Brilliant is a strong choice, though it is for ages 13 and up.

Critikid's newest release is the Social Media Simulator, a mock feed that teaches kids to spot misinformation and manipulation in a safe, controlled environment. Next up, I'm developing Fallacy Detectors Part 2, which will continue the sci-fi adventure and introduce students to new types of logical fallacies.

Critikid is a small, family-run project. I fund development through my own teaching work, and my husband handles the web design and technical side. That means every purchase directly supports the creation of new courses and resources. If you enjoy what we’ve built so far, spreading the word helps us grow and bring critical thinking skills to more kids.
