Since not all students learn at the same pace or in the same manner, I believe in the incorporation of various learning styles and strategies so that students and I can connect to the material being taught both on a personal and educational level.

I have been tutoring for families for over 10 years. By working with families respectively and reciprocally, I can offer them valuable insight into what is being taught and learned in the classroom so they can help their children succeed in school, at home, and later in life.

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

I have worked with many students with ADHD. I like to provide them with breaks when needed and allow them to have an appropriate fidget they can use to maintain their attention.

I have worked with students with dyslexia. For these learners, I like to work on activities that focus on their specific reading struggles. For example, if a student has a hard time identifying the sounds of letters like b and d, I would work on segmenting with the student to help them understand the different sounds better. I also like to know what their interests are so that I can recommend books that will intrigue them and get them excited about reading.

I have worked with students who have sensory processing disorders. For these learners, I like to break tasks into smaller steps so we focus on one thing at a time to avoid them becoming overstimulated.
