Wemi is a biology graduate and certified educator with a strong blend of classroom and one-on-one tutoring experience. They have supported learners from early elementary through high school in math, science, reading, and writing, helping students close gaps and stretch into more advanced work. In sessions, Wemi starts by building a connection—asking about a learner’s interests, strengths, and challenges—then designs lessons with clear goals, step-by-step explanations, and lots of guided practice. They love using manipulatives, diagrams, and real-life examples to bring abstract ideas to life and to help students see patterns across subjects. Wemi has experience supporting students with ADHD, autism, and dyslexia, and they routinely use strategies like chunking tasks, offering choices, and incorporating brain breaks to keep learning manageable and energizing. Families appreciate that Wemi balances high expectations with warmth and humor so learners feel both challenged and deeply supported.

My approach is building rapport with my students by making them feel comfortable. I start with asking their favorite school subjects, what they like to do for fun and which subjects they find challenging. Then, I implement a student-centered academic plan that focuses on their natural strengths to build confidence and weave in the more challenging concepts step-by-step. I provide support and encourage students to be brave in their learning and to view mistakes as learning opportunities.

My mission

My mission is to make learning engaging and fun. I enjoy building confidence and ownership of their learning in the students I work with. Seeing a student's face light up with excitement when they master something that was once hard for them. It inspires me every day. I am passionate about sharing my love of learning and developing minds of all ages to become life-long learners.

My Story

I grew up in Southern California and had many incredible teachers who helped and inspired me along the way when I was in school. My favorite teacher, Miss Peters, always told me how bright I was and that I could do anything. She encouraged me to embrace what I loved to do, which as a little 2nd grader, was spelling, reading and drawing. Mrs. Pierce, my 7th grade teacher brought math to life for me. It was her patience and innovation that finally unlocked the mystery of math for me.

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

I approach personalized lessons for students with different learning styles by incorporating their natural interests in the lessons. We have discussions, hands-on activities, lots of visuals, take brain breaks, and other supportive techniques that encourage the student to take the lead with their learning. I present information in comprehensible chunks by reading instructions aloud, breaking the directions into parts, asking student to repeat, and then provide guided and independent practice to check for comprehension. My overall experience in working with cognitive diverse students is that techniques that I use benefit students of all learning styles. I especially enjoy giving students the opportunity to teach me what they have learned, which helps to solidify their confidence in showing what they know.

I have extensive experience with students with ADHD. Techniques I like to use are assigning work in chunks such as focus for 5 minutes, brain break for 2 minutes doing something that they like and repeat the process until the assignment is completed. There are other times where I require only a percentage of a longer assignment to be completed by the student with enough work to demonstrate comprehension. Introducing novelty into a session keeps students engaged and wanting to learn.

I currently have several students who are on the autism spectrum and I incorporate accommodations such as typing instead of writing for older students, highlight key terms on exams and quizzes and administer the assessments verbally & depending on student's ability, I record their responses for them or have them record their answers independently. Pacing of the lessons is important as well. I pause during lesson and ask short answer questions to check for understanding. I've also modified lessons so that a student can produce enough work to demonstrate their knowledge at an amount that is comfortable and engaging.
