Balthazar is a physicist and mathematician with degrees in physics, nuclear physics, and mathematics. He has tutored for university departments, athletic programs, and local families, helping students navigate algebra, precalculus, calculus, and physics from high school through college. In sessions, Balthazar takes a conversational, question-driven approach—encouraging students to explain their reasoning, gently highlighting contradictions, and guiding them toward clearer understanding. He values both rigor and kindness, balancing careful attention to detail with genuine encouragement. Balthazar believes that math and physics can be deeply beautiful and that everyone deserves a chance to experience that beauty at their own pace. He is comfortable working with a wide range of learners, including those who feel anxious or “bad at math.” Outside of tutoring, Balthazar is a dedicated athlete who enjoys lifting and training, and he often uses examples from sports and everyday life to ground abstract concepts.

My primary approach to teaching is to ask questions to help students arrive at their own conclusions, or (if they misunderstand something) guide them into a contradiction in their logic rather than directly telling them what is right and what is wrong. In this way, they learn how to ask questions and learn how to think like a mathematician so that when they come to something they have not seen before they instinctively start trying to ask and answer their own relevant questions to gain insight.

My mission

Talk to any random person on the street about math and you will almost certainly hear that they aren't good at it, or even more discouraging, that they "hate math". My mission is to change that pervasive idea. To show that math can be an amazing subject if taught with patience and passion. I personally used to be one of the "I hate math" people, but after sticking with it, eventually, I had a moment where I started to see how it all came together and it finally started to make sense. I have loved the subject ever since.

My Story

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

I help students stay engaged by motivating their learning with my own journey from hating math to becoming passionate about it and eventually deciding to major in it. Showing why it is interesting, why it matters, and how it can help explain the world around us in interesting ways.
