Yuanxin is a skilled Mandarin teacher with a Bachelor’s degree in English from Southwest University of Science and Technology and real-world experience teaching Chinese to staff at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa; she designs clear, well-received lesson plans and ran a Chinese practice group to boost peer learning. Her teaching is practical and engaging, using games, stories, phonics, color-coding, and character tracing to build conversational confidence while scaffolding lessons for different learners and offering enrichment for gifted students. Yuanxin adapts pacing and multisensory techniques to help students make steady, measurable progress and enjoys mixing culture and music into lessons. Fun fact: she is learning six languages at once and plays electric guitar, so her classes often include music and a lot of laughter.

My mission

My mission is to help children discover the joy of learning and to build their confidence as they grow. I want to create a safe and supportive space where every child feels valued, understood, and excited about their progress. I love children and education, and I truly enjoy sharing my thoughts and passion for languages. As a language learner myself, I know both the challenges and the excitement that come with learning something new. Seeing a child’s face light up when they understand a new concept inspires me to keep teaching and supporting their journey.

My Story

I live in Liangshan, China, where I also grew up. As a learner myself, I discovered that when things feel too hard, the best way forward is to go slowly and be patient—an approach I now carry into my teaching. One of my biggest inspirations was my literature teacher, who was both kind and encouraging. Their guidance showed me the power of patience, empathy, and creativity in education.

I became a teacher because I realized I am good at helping others learn, and I truly enjoy sharing knowledge in ways that make learning fun and meaningful. Today, I work as a freelance translator and teacher, balancing my professional work with my personal passions.

In my free time, I love to play music, read, and write. These hobbies keep me creative and help me bring fresh ideas into my lessons. My life right now is a mix of teaching, freelancing, and continuous learning, and I feel grateful to connect with children and families through education.

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

I believe every student learns differently, and I take time to understand their strengths and challenges. I personalize lessons by mixing visual, auditory, and hands-on methods so students stay engaged. I have experience working with learners who need extra patience and structure, as well as those who are gifted and need enrichment. I also know from my own journey as a language learner (currently studying Amharic, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Portuguese!) that mistakes are part of growth, and I encourage students to learn with confidence.

I believe 2e children are incredibly creative and unique learners. While I have not formally specialized in 2e education, I have worked with learners who show both strong talents and areas where they need extra support. My approach is to honor their strengths, keep them challenged, and provide clear structure to help with areas that are more difficult.

I have experience teaching gifted students who pick up languages very quickly. With them, I focus on deeper challenges, such as cultural analysis, advanced texts, and creative projects, to keep them motivated and engaged.

I always encourage curiosity and self-expression in my classes, which can help profoundly gifted children feel engaged.

Online, I keep sessions interactive with games, quick questions, and visual aids, and I adjust pacing often to keep attention. I also use positive reinforcement and celebrate small wins to keep students motivated.

I also adapt communication styles—sometimes using visuals, other times using repetition or concrete examples—depending on what works best for the child.

I use phonics, repetition, color-coding, and multisensory activities (such as speaking, listening, and tracing words) to support reading. I believe in slowing down the pace when needed and celebrating each new word learned.

use clear visuals, structured routines, and quiet encouragement to help them stay comfortable and focused.
