The educational approach of Fraction Ninja Bootcamp is based on the science of how children truly understand fractions, not just how to compute with them. Research shows that fraction comprehension requires developing robust mental models through concrete experiences before symbolic work. This program systematically builds these foundations using a progression from tangible, real-world examples to pictorial representations before finally introducing abstract notation. Concepts are broken into small, manageable chunks with ample practice through varied modalities - visual models, physical manipulatives, verbal explanations, written practice, and real-life applications. The program emphasizes the relationships between fractions, whole numbers, and measurement rather than teaching isolated skills. Games and hands-on activities make practice enjoyable while reinforcing concepts. Common misconceptions are explicitly addressed, and multiple solution methods are encouraged to develop flexible thinking. The gradual, spiral approach ensures students don't just memorize procedures but develop deep, lasting understanding that prepares them for more advanced math.

Our mission

The mission of Science Mom is to make science and math learning engaging, accessible, and inspiring for families everywhere. Through self-paced, secular, and visually rich video courses paired with interactive doodle notes, polls, quizzes, and hands-on projects, they aim to empower learners to explore core concepts with confidence and curiosity. By keeping prep minimal and content lively, their goal is to support diverse learning styles and bring joyful, real-world education into homes and classrooms, fostering a lifelong love of discovery.

Our story

Science Mom (Jenny Ballif) and Math Dad (Serge Ballif) began their journey when Jenny, a plant science expert, started bringing weekly science demos to her son’s second-grade class in 2013, where she earned the nickname “Science Mom.” Wanting to make science fun and accessible for more families, she teamed up with Serge, a math Ph.D. and former college instructor, to create engaging, educational YouTube videos. Their channel grew quickly, especially during the pandemic, leading to the development of full self-paced, secular courses in biology, chemistry, and math. These courses blend entertaining video lessons with doodle notes, quizzes, polls, and hands-on projects, all designed to require minimal prep while deeply engaging learners. What started as classroom demos evolved into a global resource for joyful, real-world science and math learning at home.

FAQ: Additional Details about Math Dad Fraction Ninja Bootcamp Bundle

After purchasing the bundle, you receive immediate access to all instructional videos, printable worksheets, game materials, and activity guides. The program is self-paced and organized into skill-building modules that progress from basic concepts to more complex operations. Each module includes video instruction, practice activities, games, and application exercises. Printable fraction manipulatives are provided, though many activities use common household items. Progress checks are built in to ensure mastery before moving forward. The materials can be used sequentially or targeted to specific skill gaps.

Science Mom Biology 1 is a self-paced digital course designed for middle schoolers that blends engaging video lessons with printable notes, hands-on projects, and interactive review. Students begin each lesson by watching a fun, animated video taught by Science Mom and Math Dad, which introduces key biology concepts using visuals, humor, and real-world examples. While watching, they follow along using fill-in-the-blank style doodle notes that reinforce retention. After the video, they can check their answers with a key and complete optional comprehension questions, polls, or creative science/art projects. The curriculum follows a structured progression through units like cells, biomolecules, and microbiology, but students can move at their own pace and revisit lessons anytime. Everything is included with one purchase, making it easy for both independent learners and homeschool parents to implement with minimal prep.

The ideal learner for this bundle is any child aged 8-14 who needs to build or strengthen their fraction understanding, whether they're just starting fractions or struggling with more advanced fraction operations. It's perfect for visual and kinesthetic learners who benefit from hands-on activities, students who have developed math anxiety around fractions, homeschoolers looking for a comprehensive fraction curriculum, or children who need extra reinforcement beyond school instruction. The program works well for both typical learners and those with mild learning differences who benefit from multi-sensory approaches.

This bundle may not be the best fit for students who strongly prefer traditional worksheet-based learning without hands-on components, those needing highly structured, teacher-led instruction for every concept, or advanced students looking for rapid progression through fraction concepts. Children with severe dyscalculia or significant math learning disabilities may need more specialized intervention alongside this program.

The Fraction Ninja Bootcamp Bundle is particularly well-suited for children with special learning needs including autism, dyslexia, and dyscalculia. For autistic learners, the clear, structured video format with predictable lesson flow and visual fraction models provides a comfortable learning framework. Students with dyslexia benefit from the heavy emphasis on visual representations and hands-on activities rather than text-heavy instruction, reducing reading barriers. The program is especially valuable for those with dyscalculia as it builds fraction understanding through concrete, tactile experiences using everyday objects before introducing abstract symbols. The multi-sensory approach combining videos, manipulatives, games, and real-world applications helps reinforce concepts for diverse learners. However, children who need highly individualized instruction or have severe math learning disabilities may require additional one-on-one support alongside this program.

Science Mom and Math Dad very well for gifted and 2e learners, offering engaging, rigorous science exploration with flexibility to differentiate. For profoundly gifted kids, it’s a strong starter—pair with deeper extracurricular projects or independent research to meet their advanced needs.

Gifted learners appreciate the in-depth explanations and real-world science, which are great for skill-building like note-taking even when content isn’t fully new.

Twice-exceptional (2e) or accelerated students can still benefit, especially when pairing familiar topics with scaffolded academic techniques.

Profoundly gifted students seeking autonomy and depth will find the self-paced, inquiry-driven structure supportive; however, they may need more complexity or opportunities for independent extension beyond the provided material.

The only prerequisite is basic understanding of whole numbers and simple division concepts (like sharing items equally). Students should recognize numbers up to at least 100 and have some multiplication readiness (though multiplication facts aren't required). The program starts with foundational fraction concepts and builds from there, making it accessible even for those with minimal prior fraction exposure. Children who struggle with basic number sense may need additional support with counting and whole number operations first.

Family involvement can significantly enhance the learning experience. Parents or caregivers may need to help younger children with cutting or setting up activities initially. The games are designed for 1-4 players, making them perfect for family math time. Adults don't need advanced math skills - the videos teach all concepts, and answer keys are provided. Observing your child's work can help identify areas needing extra practice. The real-world application activities provide natural opportunities for family participation.

To maximize results, establish a consistent practice schedule of 3-4 sessions per week rather than cramming. Before starting, assess your child's current fraction understanding using the included pre-tests to identify focus areas. Create a dedicated math space with frequently used materials always available. Reinforce concepts between lessons by pointing out fractions in daily life - cooking, measuring, sharing items. Celebrate small victories to build confidence. Keep a fraction journal where your child can record discoveries and solutions. Revisit games and activities periodically even after mastery to maintain skills.
