K–12 science standards for students and educators

The Next Generation Science Standards, often shortened to NGSS, are K to 12 learning goals developed by a consortium of states and science organizations to describe what students should know and be able to do in science. Rather than listing only facts, NGSS organizes expectations into three dimensions: disciplinary core ideas, science and engineering practices, and crosscutting concepts that apply across fields. Many modern curricula and state standards are built from or inspired by NGSS. Homeschool families reference the NGSS website to check scope and sequence, make sure they are covering key ideas, and choose resources that emphasize inquiry and real world problem solving.

Free to read online; digital standards documents and many supporting resources can be downloaded at no cost, though printed books from publishers are sold separately.
