Recommended Ages

Offers Earth and space science outreach and curriculum resources for K–12 students and teachers, with many programs targeting middle and high school and beyond

The Space Science and Engineering Center at the University of Wisconsin Madison is a research center that designs and builds satellite instruments and data systems used for weather, climate, and atmospheric studies. Scientists and engineers there have contributed to instruments flown on NOAA and NASA missions, and they also develop advanced weather visualizations and forecasting tools. While it is not a curriculum, the center’s outreach pages share real satellite imagery, data, and educational resources that can enrich homeschool earth science and space units. Families use SSEC’s galleries and lesson links to show students how scientists observe Earth from space in real time.

Most online education and outreach materials are freely available; only specialized data services from the SSEC Data Center carry separate fees.
