Dr. Navinder holds a PhD in TESL (specializing in extensive reading), an MEd in Assessment & Evaluation, a BA (Economics), a Postgrad Diploma in Teaching English, C2 CEFR certification, and recent training in generative AI and AI-assisted communication. With 30+ years of teaching and examining experience, he builds confidence through interactive, Bloom’s-taxonomy–based lessons—quizzes, mini-projects (Canva, flipbooks), and tech-enabled speaking/writing practice—personalized to each learner; a three-time Outstanding Teacher Award recipient and conference presenter, he also runs community reading programs. On weekends he plays pickleball, writes book reviews, and cooks for pleasure, and he loves helping learners share their stories.

My educational approach is to build communication skills and enhance confidence in studnets. I encourage students to express views and share opinions, build creativity and critical thinking skills. Lessons are customised to studnets' requirements to guide and motivate them to discover new horizons.

I have a PhD in TESL specializing in extensive reading. Prior to that, I obtained my Masters in Education on Asssessment and Evaluation. After I completed my Bachelor of Economics (Hons) degree, I pursued my Post Grad Diploma in Teaching English language. I have a C2 CEFR Level from British Council and attended a few online courses from the American Embassy. Recently, I completed two online programs on AI : i) generative AI and ii) Mastering Communications with AI Language Models (by Code Signal)

I have been teaching for more than 30 years. My students come from all walks of life, from young kids( e.g. 7 years) to adult learners. I have synchronous and asynchronous learners, leveraging technology to optimize learning opportunities. Lessons are interactive, engaging and meaningful to cater to students' needs and requirements. The focus is on speaking and writing skills - both for academic and business aspects. I have extensive experience as an examiner for national level speaking and writing exams. I have also tutored students for IELTS and APTIS exams. Presently,, I am involved in a community reading programme in a park to enhance reading skills for a marginalised community

My Story

Stories have always been a part of my life. When in schools, teachers and nuns used to tell short inspiring stories during assembly. At home, bedtime stories and receiving storybooks as birthdays gifts were always special moments. As I grewup, cultural and religious stories were significant part of my life as they motivated and inspsired me to pursue my dreams. Ironically, my PhD was in delving deeper into the role stories have in our learning journey and lately, I inspire my studnets to create and share their stories online in engaging and meaningful e-flipbooks. These days, on weekends, I read stories with marginalised students in a park. And now, you are a part of my story.

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

My approach is to guide and motivate students to improve in their language skills. Some may require more guidance and support while for others may need more analysis and synthesis. The overall approach is built on Bloom's Taxonomy- from basic to higher-order thinking skills. For example, some students need certain strategies to overcome hesitation and groping for words when responding to questions. Others may require more complex structures to explicitly share views and ideas.
Lessons are created using powerpoint slides to assist in understanding, with quizzes and games to enhance the learning experience. Mini projects incorporating Canva, flipbooks, google questionnaires and other apps are sometimes used to encourage communication and collaborative activities.
Besides that, my sister has celebral palsy and this has shown me the significance of compassion, support and encouragement in creating a condusive learning environment.
