My approach is to treat every student as capable of independent thought. Rather than cramming information just to pass a test, I guide students to discover solutions on their own. I focus on practical knowledge that they can apply immediately, while keeping the learning process engaging with humor and creativity. This way, students build confidence, develop problem-solving skills, and enjoy the process of learning.

I studied Linguistics at Simon Fraser University and earned a certificate in ESL Linguistics, which is more advanced than a standard TESOL. I’ve also trained in medical and legal interpretation, and for more than ten years I’ve worked in classrooms, courts, and hospitals helping people communicate clearly. My education is both academic and practical, and I bring that balance into every lesson.

I’ve been teaching and coaching for more than ten years, working with students of all ages. In Hong Kong, I helped children prepare for international school admissions, and over 90% were accepted — even those who had been struggling the most. I’ve also taught at the university level and supported friends and family, always focusing on practical learning, independent thinking, and keeping lessons fun.

Subject Expertise

My mission

My mission is to help students build confidence by teaching them to think independently and solve problems, not just memorize answers. I believe true learning comes through engagement — with humor, rhythm, and practical examples — so that children not only succeed in school but also develop skills they carry for life.

My Story

I was born in Hong Kong and grew up between East and West, which gave me a deep appreciation for languages and culture. My mom and Bruce Lee were neighbors in the Jordan area, and she used to joke that she’d chase him down the street and beat him up — a story that always reminds me that learning (and life) should be full of energy and humor. Over the years I’ve taught university students in Shanghai, helped children in Hong Kong gain admission to international schools, and coached adults around the world in communication. Today I live in Guadalajara, Mexico, where I practice Tai Chi daily and continue to develop my “Copycat Karaoke” method of teaching English through music.

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

I have worked with children who struggled with attention and focus, including one boy named Henry. We connected through Lego, which gave him a hands-on way to stay engaged while learning. I’ve found that combining practical activities with humor, rhythm, and short tasks helps children with ADHD stay motivated and focused online.
