As an educator, I enjoy showing students the beauty of the academic concepts they learn. I deliver my instruction through a call-and-response methodology. I ask my students questions pertaining to the academic content at hand by conducting differentiated instruction featuring a variety of teaching tools and resources in order to relate what my students are learning to elements of everyday life and have them draw their own comparisons and realizations. I also encourage my students to connect what they are learning to their own interests in order to help them make new discoveries as they take in and review their newfound knowledge through hands-on experience. Overall, I emphasize the importance of correlating elements of different academic core subjects to help widen the spectrum of knowledge and enhance student understanding of what they learn on the whole.

I own a B.A. in Liberal Studies-Teacher Education from Dominican University of California, along with 23 years of experience teaching students in Kindergarten-12th Grade as a: tutor (13 years), lead teacher (11 years), substitute teacher (9 years), teaching assistant (4 years), and full-time volunteer (1 year)--in public, independent private (co-ed, and single-sex), parochial, cooperative, immersion, and charter schools.
I am also certified in online IXL instruction.

In my 13 years of experience as an online and in-person tutor, I have worked with students who are advanced, special needs, and average-Joe types of learners who attend public and private schools, as well as students who were homeschooled. I have tutored students in all academic core subjects (English/Language Arts, Math, History, Science) in all grade levels Kindergarten-12th. I have assisted students with completing their nightly homework assignments, studying for tests (both classroom teacher-issued as well as standardized), in addition to helping my pupils pen their college application essays and submit their completed college applications themselves. I have tutored students online all across America as well as students who live- and attend schools in other English-speaking world countries-, or who came to America having been born in other countries worldwide. I have also tutored students who I also taught in the classroom at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

My mission

I believe that tutoring is my calling. It is the professional role that I have held the longest as a tutor, covering the greatest amount of academic leveled contextual ground every step of the way. I also enjoy helping students further enhance their overall knowledge and understanding of what they are learning both in- and outside of school on a daily basis in a more direct 1:1 instructional setting. The freedom, relaxation, straightforwardness, and high productivity of regular tutoring allows for a positive learning and teaching experience for the student and tutor throughout the process, paving the way for beneficial business relationships between the two parties (including parents) and all-around valuable education for the students moving forward.

My Story

I was born and currently live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Growing up, I attended a wide variety of schools (public, independent private, parochial, charter) and gained valuable learning- and social-cultural experiences that broadened my overall perspective on all bases and ultimately inspired me to become a teacher. My 5th Grade teacher (who retired from teaching after 40 fulfilling years in the classroom in 2019, and who I am still in contact with to this day) was the person who truly inspired me to go into teaching and create a career out of it. My mother was a music and movement teacher for 30 years, and she too inspired me to pursue education professionally--in addition to instilling a love and appreciation of music and the arts within me. My late father, along with the many professional singer/songwriters whom I have admired ever since my own adolescence, inspired my love of writing and ultimately becoming a published author multiple times over! Although I have been a successful educator for more than two decades, I did experience learning challenges in different capacities as a student growing up--especially in college when I had to repeat all three of my Science courses and one of my Math courses. Thankfully, it was during my college years when I developed a permanent understanding of- and interest in the world of math--enough to create a YouTube channel revolving around Math from a more everyday-life based academic instructional angle for students of all ages and abilities in the given subject area. Ever since March 2020 at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, I have worked from home as an online tutor. It has proven to be a productive, peaceful professional environment for me (and my loving cat), and I look forward to continuing in this light!

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

I have tutored and taught gifted students at the AP level both in the classroom and online. I am able to provide my gifted students with thought-provoking academic exercises, projects, and learning activities to further spark their interest and curiosities while appropriately challenging and correlating their potential academic capabilities all the more. I also engage my students in in-depth philosophical discussions about the learned content at hand to help expand their horizons in that regard moving forward.

For nearly 20 years, I have both tutored and taught public school and private school students who have ADHD--online and in the classroom at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in all academic core subjects (English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and History). I keep my students who fall under this category engaged during our online tutoring sessions by providing them with constant academic exercises to carry out while engaging them in discussions about what they are learning as well as casual conversations about topics of interest on their part when time allows.

For nearly 20 years, I have both tutored and taught public school and private school students who are on the autism spectrum (this includes high-functioning autism as well as students at Level 1/mild, and Level 2/moderate)--online and in the classroom at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in all academic core subjects (English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and History). I am able to design differentiated instructional approaches and academic curricula tailored towards my students' own individual learning styles and needs specifically.

For nearly 20 years, I have both tutored and taught public school and private school students who have Dyslexia--online and in the classroom at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in all academic core subjects (English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and History). I help my students who are dyslexic learn by constantly reviewing and reiterating what they are learning and have learned all across the board in personalized ways that will help them best remember the underlying academic material long-term. I am also able to design differentiated instructional approaches and academic curricula tailored towards my dyslexic students' own individual learning styles and needs specifically.
