I am originally from Argentina and grew up moving around Latin America, meaning I have experience with adapting to new environments and forming connections with people from all over the world. Switching schools every few years wasn’t easy, but it exposed me to a wide range of teaching styles and made it clear to me there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to learning. After finishing up high school while volunteering as an ESL tutor, I double majored in Classical Civilization and Public Health with a minor in Spanish. I am now in the process of completing a Masters in Linguistics, specifically in Latin and Ancient Greek. I have taught undergraduate introductory Latin and been a virtual reading tutor. When I’m not teaching, you can find me with my dog at the park!

My educational approach is to facilitate learning guided by student's own curiosity and interests. I will more than happily change up a lesson plan to cater to a specific student's interests and/or include culture or history portions when learning languages so that the students are also learning about why that language is important to learn.

Subject Expertise

My mission

My mission when tutoring students is not just to teach them as much as I can about the subject on hand, but also to allow their interests and passions to guide the lessons as well. For example, when I taught introductory Latin to undergraduates, I created a weekly "culture presentation" where I would go into depth on some aspect of material culture or history or archeology that the students specifically requested in order to show that the language they are learning can connect to many things and be used in numerous ways, not just linguistics.

My Story

I have had a passion for teaching for as long as I can remember. While I was in high school in Peru, I volunteered as an ESL tutor for 4 years. I proceeded to college, where I minored in Spanish for fun and double majored in Classical Civilization and Public Health. While my undergraduate was focused more on the history aspects of the Classics, I pivoted to a Masters in Linguistics with a concentration in Latin and Ancient Greek, and have had the privilege of teaching undergraduate Latin as I complete my degree. I am a native speaker of English and Spanish, and am additionally fluent in Italian. Lately, I have been working as a virtual reading tutor, teaching elementary and middle schoolers to become stronger readers. I am currently working on improving my French and Portuguese!

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

I am diagnosed with ADHD and dyscalculia, my sister is diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, my brother is diagnosed with ADHD and Autism. We have all at different times and in different schools been placed in gifted or special education programs and variably disqualified from these programs as well, so I have significant experience with that. When I taught Latin, I also worked with students who had accommodations such as extra time for test taking, extra time to think, etc.

I think my tutoring sessions would be a good fit for children who are 2e because myself and all of my siblings are also 2e and have significant experience navigating the school system as well as providing specific tips.

I think my tutoring sessions would be a good fit for children who are gifted as I am more than willing and able to tailor lessons to be more or less challenging depending on the student. I was also classified as a gifted kid, so I also have personal experience with it.

I think my tutoring sessions could also be good for children who are profoundly gifted, I am well versed in engaging children who tend to feel unchallenged and disinterested by school.

I personally have ADHD and so do several members of my family, I cam provide tips and tricks based on my own experience.

my brother is on the spectrum and I have significant experience teaching/learning from people with autism.

I don't have dyslexia but my sister and mom do so I have experience teaching/learning from people with dyslexia.

I had the pleasure of teaching Latin alongside Rowan for two years at UNM. He is an exceptional educator who goes above and beyond for his students, and it was easy to tell that anyone who took his class left with a solid understanding of the subject and benefited greatly from his patience and support.

Rowan helped me with my Ancient Greek translations and it made all the difference in the classroom. He adapted to my learning style and helped me learn in ways specific to my brain. He’s absolutely brilliant.

Rowan tutored me in Spanish and was SO helpful in getting my vocabulary from proficient to fluent. Rowan is knowledgeable about how Spanish is actually spoken in all different parts of the world, and I got way more out of his tutoring than I have with self-directed learning or group classes. I feel so much more comfortable speaking Spanish after just a few lessons! Absolutely recommend :)
