Mia
Mia is an experienced teacher who has worked with students in elementary, middle, and high school math and science. She tutors topics ranging from fractions and pre-algebra to geometry, chemistry, and physics, helping learners build the confidence and skills they need for class and exams. Mia focuses on relationships first—taking time to understand a student’s interests, strengths, and worries—then designs lessons that connect new material to what they already know. She uses visual models, real-life analogies, and lots of guided practice to make complex ideas feel manageable. Mia has significant experience working with autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, and other neurodivergent learners and carefully structures sessions with clear steps, movement breaks, and multiple ways to show understanding. Outside of tutoring, she is an avid golfer and a devoted fantasy and games fan, and she loves weaving sports stats or story-based examples into math and science problems.

My approach to teaching is centered on building strong relationships and creating a supportive environment where students feel seen, valued, and confident enough to ask questions. I focus on meeting learners where they are, using clear explanations, patience, and encouragement to help them overcome challenges. I believe in active, hands-on learning that keeps students engaged and helps them make meaningful connections. Above all, I strive to make learning feel safe, achievable, and empowering for every child.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, completed my master’s degree in STEM Education, and I am currently working toward my doctorate. I also have three years of full-time teaching experience.
I have several years of experience tutoring, both formally and informally. I’ve tutored many of my former students in subjects they needed extra support with, and I’ve also helped friends and family members with their schoolwork and study skills. These experiences have taught me how to explain concepts clearly, adjust my approach to different learning styles, and create a comfortable environment where learners feel confident asking questions.

My mission
My mission is to make every child feel seen, supported, and capable, no matter where they’re starting from. I’m inspired to tutor because I believe every student deserves someone who notices their struggles, celebrates their strengths, and helps them grow with confidence. Helping kids find joy in learning and giving them the space to ask questions without fear is what motivates me every day.
My Story
I grew up in El Paso, and that community shaped who I am as a teacher. School wasn’t always easy for me I often felt unseen when I struggled, and that experience made me passionate about becoming the kind of educator who notices kids who might otherwise slip through the cracks. Throughout my life, I’ve had a few mentors who reminded me that learning isn’t about perfection it’s about curiosity, patience, and having someone who believes in you. Those relationships inspired me to pursue teaching, and today I’m in my third full year as an educator. My life today is a mix of learning, teaching, and doing what I can to help students feel the confidence I once had to fight for. That’s the heart of my story, and the reason I show up for kids every day.
Cognitive Diversity
How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.
I personalize lessons by paying close attention to each student’s interests, strengths, and the way they naturally think. For example, I once had a student who was fascinated by topics far beyond what we were covering in class when we talked about Pangea, he became curious about the entire history of life on Earth, so I leaned into his curiosity and helped him create a timeline stretching across geological eras. Moments like that remind me that learning isn’t one-size-fits-all; it’s about meeting kids where they are and building from what sparks their curiosity.
I’ve worked with students with a range of learning differences, including gifted learners and those who need more scaffolding and reassurance. My approach is patient, flexible, and connection-driven I adjust pacing, give alternative explanations, and celebrate their thinking process, not just the final answer. Because I’ve navigated my own learning differences over the years, I’m able to recognize the signs of when a child needs a different pathway or a confidence boost. My goal is always to make every learner feel understood, supported, and excited about what they’re discovering.
I have worked with many students with ADHD, and I’ve found that the key is structure paired with flexibility. I keep kids engaged online by using short, varied activities, visual supports, clear routines, and plenty of opportunities to move or interact. I also use positive reinforcement and break tasks into chunks so students don’t feel overwhelmed. Because I identify with ADHD myself, I understand the challenges that come with focus, processing, and motivation, and I use that experience to make sessions feel supportive, encouraging, and manageable for every learner.
