Project-based STEM awards scheme with levels for young people ages 3–19 (primary through late secondary)

The CREST Awards are a UK-based STEM recognition program where young people design and complete independent science, technology, engineering, or math investigations at different levels. Run by the British Science Association, it was created to encourage real-world problem solving and give students something tangible to show for their project work. Homeschoolers can register, follow project guidance, and submit evidence to earn certificates. Parents appreciate the external structure and recognition, especially for portfolios and applications. There are modest fees, but as an internationally recognized badge for self-directed STEM, CREST can be a strong value.

Entry fees per student for CREST Awards range from about the equivalent of $1–$5 (for primary Star/SuperStar levels) up to roughly $40 (for Gold Awards), depending on award level and whether the entry is in the UK or international; CREST project resources are free to download, and awards are currently fully funded for young people in Scotland.
