Discovery Education Virtual Field Trips
Offers virtual field trips for elementary through high school students, with many resources aimed at grades 3–8
When you can’t physically visit a farm, factory, or museum, Discovery Education Virtual Field Trips bring those spaces to your screen in a surprisingly immersive way. These streaming experiences combine video tours, interviews, and behind-the-scenes footage with teacher guides and activity suggestions tied to specific themes and grade levels. Developed by Discovery Education in partnership with industry and cultural organizations, they’re meant to help students see real-world applications of what they’re learning in science, social studies, and career exploration. Homeschool parents like that many field trips are free to access and easy to integrate into a unit study or project-based week. Some may require a school or district login, which can be a hurdle for independent families, but there is still a solid library available at no cost. To get the most out of them, pause frequently to discuss and build in a simple follow-up project or reflection.
Many virtual field trip videos are free to stream, while some supplemental classroom resources require access to a paid Discovery Education subscription through a school or district.
