Forever Ago
Helping kids see history as a story of everyday life—not just wars and presidents—can be tricky. Forever Ago, a history podcast for kids, tackles that challenge by exploring the backstory of ordinary things like clocks, sandwiches, or video games. Produced by public media professionals with kid co-hosts, each episode combines narrative, interviews, and games to show how inventions and ideas evolved over time. We love how approachable and funny the show is while still sneaking in real historical thinking about change, continuity, and cause and effect. It’s ideal for roughly 7–12 year olds and works beautifully in the car, at lunch, or as a calm-down choice before bed. Episodes aren’t a full curriculum, and release schedules can be sporadic, but as a free supplement they’re delightful. Pro tip: after listening, invite kids to draw a simple timeline of the object’s history or brainstorm how it might change again in their lifetime.
