Michigan Open Book Project
The Michigan Open Book Project offers free, open-source social studies textbooks as downloadable PDFs or print files, organized by grade level. Each book includes readings, maps, and classroom-style activities aligned to Michigan standards but useful far beyond the state. Teachers and homeschoolers appreciate having full, professionally laid-out texts at no cost. They’re best for upper elementary through high school social studies and work well as spines or references. Because they’re designed for classrooms, some activities assume groups or specific pacing, but many adapt easily. Printing selected chapters or reading digitally with annotation tools lets you customize without losing structure.
