Designed for upper elementary, middle, and high school science students.

OpenSciEd is an open-source science curriculum project providing free NGSS-aligned units, teacher guides, and student materials for upper elementary through high school. Each unit centers around a real-world phenomenon and guides students through investigations, discussions, and modeling to build explanations over time. Teachers and homeschoolers appreciate the strong pedagogy, detailed supports, and the fact that materials are freely available to adapt. It’s best for families comfortable facilitating inquiry and group-style discussions, and for co-ops looking for rigorous science. Units can be prep-intensive and assume classroom structures, so home educators often modify pacing. Starting with one unit and giving yourself time to learn the routine makes adoption smoother.

OpenSciEd classroom materials are free to download and use; optional printed books, lab kits, and professional learning sold by partner publishers are priced separately.
