Planet Money Summer School

Recommended Ages

Best for high school, college-level students, and adults who want an approachable introduction to economics.

Planet Money Summer School is a seasonal podcast series from NPR’s Planet Money that teaches core economics ideas—like supply and demand, markets, and trade—through stories and interviews. Each “semester” focuses on a cluster of topics, building a mini course you can follow over a few weeks. Teens and parents appreciate the lively explanations and real-world examples involving everything from baseball cards to tariffs. It’s best for older teens and adults who enjoy learning on the go. Some math is discussed conceptually rather than formally, but that’s often a feature for non-econ majors. Listening together and pausing to discuss examples turns it into an informal family econ class.

Free podcast series from NPR; episodes are free to listen to on major podcast platforms, with an optional separate Planet Money+ subscription for ad-free feeds and bonus content.
