The Official ScratchJr Book

Recommended Ages

Best for early elementary learners in roughly grades K–4.

The Official ScratchJr Book from No Starch Press is a parent-friendly guide to using the free ScratchJr coding app with young children. Step-by-step projects walk kids through building simple stories and games, introducing sequencing, loops, and debugging in bite-sized challenges. Written by members of the ScratchJr team, the book was created to give adults concrete scripts and visuals so they don’t have to be coders to help. Families like that it’s a one-time purchase that can be revisited with multiple kids as they grow, and that every project ends with suggestions for “what if we change this?” experimentation. You’ll still need a tablet with ScratchJr installed, but together they make a powerful early-coding toolkit.

Print book with free ebook from No Starch Press costs about $19.95, while the standalone ebook is around $15.95.
