Recommended Ages

Designed for grades K–12, with lessons organized by grade band

WoLakota is an online collection of lesson plans, videos, and resources built around Lakota values and stories, developed in collaboration with Native elders. Materials connect character education, history, and culture, highlighting concepts like courage, generosity, and respect through elder interviews and classroom activities. Teachers and families appreciate that Indigenous voices are centered, not treated as side notes. It’s best for upper elementary through high school social studies, language arts, and advisory. Because resources are grounded in specific tribal traditions, it’s important not to treat them as interchangeable with all Native cultures. Pairing WoLakota lessons with local Indigenous histories and contemporary issues deepens respect and understanding.
