Samuel is an engineer-turned-educator with a background in agricultural engineering and electrical and computer engineering. Over the past 15 years, he has tutored students from middle school through university in math, physics, and programming, helping learners tackle everything from fractions and algebra to calculus, mechanics, and Python. Samuel’s sessions follow a simple but powerful pattern: diagnose what a student understands, model how to approach a problem, then guide the learner in solving a similar one independently. He emphasizes deep conceptual understanding, shows multiple paths to a solution, and constantly connects new ideas to what students already know. Samuel is experienced working with learners who have ADHD and with gifted students, and he tailors explanations, pacing, and practice to keep everyone challenged but not overwhelmed. Outside of tutoring, Samuel enjoys gardening, caring for bees, and working on sustainability projects—interests that often inspire real-world examples in his lessons.

Whenever I'm teaching I always follow these steps: (1) present the idea/concept in broken down easy-to-understand steps; (2) apply the concept in solving a problem; (3) allow the student to solve a problem related to the concept; (4) apply the concept in solving a real-world problem; (5) allow the student to solve a real-world problem; (6) allow the student to create their own problem and solve it.
Let me also add that my lessons are always very interactive, and the goal is to make the student both creative and independent!

I did an undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering and have certifications in Digital Signal Processing and Information Technology. At the moment I'm doing a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

My tutoring experience spans more than 15 years. I have tutored students all the way from preK to College, mainly in Computer Science, Python Programming, SAT preparation( for students joining American universities), as well as Math, Physics and Chemistry. Incidentally, it all began with in-person sessions with students in a tuition center in a property owned and managed by American missionaries in Nairobi, Kenya. With time some parents introduced me to a homeschooling program called Accelerated Christian Education(ACE), and ensured I was trained in it! Eventually, it's the recommendations from my students that enabled me get into online tutoring.

My mission

Making students creative and independent is my ultimate goal. I do my best to break down a concept to my students, apply it together with them in solving a problem, create a problem for them to solve using the same concept, and eventually ask the students to use the very same concept to solve a problem of their own.

My Story

My journey as a tutor has a rather interesting beginning! In 2005 when I was working with American missionaries in Nairobi, Kenya, somebody got to know of my academic background and approached me to tutor in their tuition center. I wasn't sure I could tutor anyone given my engineering background, but the feedback was amazing! Not very long thereafter American missionaries and diplomats got to hear of me. Incidentally, it's in the same environment of American missionaries I met my wife! And my best man and best lady in my wedding were an American couple. And, as they say, the rest is history.

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

In my tutoring experience I've learned that no two students learn exactly the same way, leave alone at the same speed. I've tutored gifted students as well as those with ADHD. Personally, I use tailor-made approach to handle the diverse learning abilities. As an example, I design a special program to fast-track those who are gifted, and sessions with a variety of activities to accommodate those with ADHD.

I've also worked with gifted students. In their case I'd design a program where topics and concepts would be accelerated to match their learning speed. That way the students would be kept motivated.

I've worked with three students with ADHD, but from different grades. Through interactions with them and their guardians I'd try and find what they loved/liked, and use the information to create interludes of fun moments between a session. That way I'd find them grasping a concept. At the moment one of the three students is a university student
