Alexis is a special educator with degrees in early childhood education and special education who has supported learners from early elementary through high school. They are experienced with IEPs, behavior plans, and differentiated instruction and are especially skilled at helping younger learners gain confidence in reading, writing, and math. In sessions, Alexis uses an inquiry-based, student-centered approach: they ask open-ended questions, offer choices in how to show understanding, and adjust on the fly based on what they notice. Lessons often incorporate games, visuals, and real-world examples so learning feels meaningful rather than mechanical. Alexis has particular experience with autistic and ADHD learners and designs sessions with predictable routines, sensory-aware strategies, and plenty of positive reinforcement. Families appreciate their calm, nonjudgmental presence and their willingness to communicate about what’s working and what might need to change.

An inquiry based learning because I am able to have students tell me how they learn best and I am able to tailor session to how they learn best. I let them choose which format they are comfortable with. A student-centered approach where students drive their own learning by asking questions and investigating topics to find answers.

I have a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education Prek-4 and Special Education Prek-12. I have a Master's degree in Special Education Prek-12.

I have been an independent tutor for 3 years and have worked with students from the elementary level to high school level in regular education and special education.

My mission

I am a young teacher who is still learning the art of teaching. I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to work with all different groups of children and ages. I have noticed over the few years of tutoring that students are able to teach me how to become a better teacher. Tutoring gives me practice and feedback to improve my teaching.

My Story

I am from Russia and was adopted by an American family. I have been living in the United States of America for 26 years now. I have a SLD so in school I needed special education services even continuing til college. I graduated with a bachelor's and master's degree in education. I like traveling and have been to Europe twice and have been to Italy, Switzerland, England, and France. I have also been to the Bahamas and I am going to Mexico in June of 2026. My high school special education teacher led me into teaching where my first experience working with children were a group of nonverbal children while in high school. I have done job shadowing in city schools, and rural schools. I am currently a community advisor for a student from Brazil in which I just help guide them while they attend school here in the US. I take them once a month out into the community and help them experience the US culture. I have learned about Brazilian culture as well. I am a full time Title 1 Teacher at my current school and really enjoy it! I get to know all kids in grades k-8th and build relationships with each of them.

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

I use open-ended questions, surveys, and conversations to understand a child's strengths, weaknesses, interests, and preferred learning style. I establish clear, attainable goals and check in regularly to adjust the plan as needed. I F=foster a safe space free of sarcasm or criticism to build a child's confidence and encourage them to take risks. I enjoy letting students share their interests outside of school such as their hobbies and some of their favorite activities, food, games, and share things about their family.

I had a student who would get up out of their seat regularly. I would give them a fidget spinner to play with to calm themselves and allow them to stand up at their seat and do their work. I let them take 5 minute breaks every 30 minutes to help them refocus and return to their work.

I worked with a second grader who was on the spectrum. They had difficulty with getting overstimulated when something didn't go their way or when teacher tried to provide feedback to improve their learning. They
