My Story

I'm a online Mandarin tutor now, teaching Mandarin Chinese for 5 years in United States. I used to be Chinese Professor, taught at university in China. As a lead author of textbooks, scientific program researcher, and loving life person will tutor your Mandarin in formal, academic or causal way,

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

1. Different methods for different ages. For example, Chinese characters are so confusing for children. For middle school and high school children, I'd like to use stories related to Chinese history and culture to help remember those characters. For younger children, I 'd like to use Cartoon pictures to understand and remember Chinese characters.
2. Teaching gifted children, I'd like to provide depth, challenge and autonomy to them. For example, after learning the topic "direction" , I'll have extended conversation with expanded vocabulary and more sentence pattern, then I'll ask students to introduce their school.
3. One example, I have a elementary student who was frustrated with Chinese characters. I showed cartoons and short stories. Now, he can even tell me the stories sometime!

I didn't teach children with ADHD till now.
If I teach children with ADHD, I'll do 1.Visual aids, such as highlighters, color coding, or graphic organizers, make it easier to understand and retain information.
2. Let student actively engage in reading, such as underlining, taking notes, or summarizing.
3. Break-ups. Taking short breaks every 20-30 minutes helps prevent fatigue and improves concentration.
