Florida Sea Grant Programs

Recommended Ages

Provides K–12 marine and coastal curricula and activities, plus resources for adult community learners.

Florida Sea Grant programs offer a rich set of resources for families interested in marine science, especially along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts. As a partnership between universities, NOAA, and local organizations, Florida Sea Grant develops curricula, activities, and citizen science opportunities focused on coastal ecosystems, boating safety, and sustainable seafood. Many materials are designed for classrooms and 4-H clubs, but motivated homeschoolers can adapt lessons on topics like estuaries, sea turtles, or water quality for home use or co-ops. Parents appreciate that content is grounded in real research and local issues, helping kids see how science connects to their own beaches and waterways. Much of the educational material is free to download, though in-person programs and camps can carry fees. If you’re not in Florida, the concepts still travel well—use them as a springboard for studying your nearest body of water.

Most lesson plans, activities, and downloadable publications are free to access online; some printed guides and workshops may have separate fees.
