Recommended Ages

Designed for kids ages 7–12, roughly grades 2–7, who want to explore art and artifacts through interactive media.

MetKids turns the vast Metropolitan Museum of Art into a kid-scaled playground of ideas. This online portal features an interactive map of the museum, short videos, and creative prompts that invite children to explore artworks and artifacts from many cultures and time periods. Designed with and for kids, the interface is playful and intuitive, encouraging learners to click around and follow their curiosity rather than march through a fixed tour. Parents love that each object is paired with accessible explanations and “time machine” style context, making it a natural fit for history, geography, and art appreciation. Everything on the site is free, which is remarkable given the quality. Because it’s easy to get lost, we suggest choosing a theme—like animals, armor, or ancient Egypt—and letting kids explore within that lens before branching out to the rest of the collection.

MetKids is a free online resource from The Met, with videos, interactive maps, and activities at no cost.
