MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) opens a window into one of the world’s top universities by publishing course materials online for free. Advanced teens and adults can browse thousands of classes across engineering, math, sciences, humanities, and more, accessing syllabi, lecture notes, assignments, and sometimes full video lectures. Created and maintained by MIT, OCW is designed as a resource, not a formal program: there’s no built-in grading or credit, but enormous freedom to pick and choose material. Families of highly motivated learners appreciate that students can sample topics like linear algebra, computer science, or philosophy well beyond typical high school offerings without paying tuition. The tradeoff is that courses assume strong background knowledge and self-discipline, so it’s not a fit for every teen.
