Recommended Ages

Best for upper elementary and secondary learners, especially grades 5–12, plus interested adults.

NASA Solar System Treks is a suite of free interactive tools that let students explore 3D maps of the Moon, Mars, and other worlds using real mission data. Developed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, these web apps allow learners to zoom, tilt, measure, and overlay information much like planetary scientists do. Parents of space-obsessed kids love how visually rich and “grown-up” the tools feel while still being accessible with a bit of guidance. There’s a learning curve to the interface, but once you get the hang of it, Solar System Treks offers research-grade exploration power for zero dollars.

NASA’s Solar System Treks portals are free browser-based tools; there is no subscription fee or purchase required to use them.
