Natalya holds a Master’s degree in Russian and English language and literature and has taught in both Russia and the United States for over twenty years. She tutors learners of all ages in Russian and English and adapts lessons to each student’s strengths and interests, using patient, step-by-step practice so mistakes become opportunities to grow. She has experience supporting students with ADHD and learning disabilities and enjoys building lessons around a student’s passions, for example using historical texts to strengthen language and comprehension. Families value her calm, individualized approach and the steady confidence their children gain. She divides her time between two countries, raises bilingual sons, and outside of teaching she spends time with her dog Pesya, reads in both languages, practices yoga, and joins friends for weekend skill-sharing sessions.

I make sure you feel comfortable and relaxed during my lessons, it's fine to make mistakes, we would learn from them and grow step by step. No rush, practice makes perfect.

Subject Expertise

My mission

To help one person to make small steps during a long and rewarding journey to learn foreign language and don't forget to smell flowers and develop friendship during this journey.

My Story

I was growing in Russia and moved to USA after I got married. I had my two sons in USA and started to travel with them since they were about 9 months old. I have been living between two countries and my sons have been travelling with me until last few years. It's an interesting experience when you can compare two countries and see an advantages and disadvantages of living in each country. My boys speak Russian fluently, they have grandparents here in Russia, they went to summer camps with other Russian children and had plenty of memorable moments over here in Russia. I think they benefited from this experience and glad it turned out this way.

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

I adjust my lessons to different students, because every kid is unique and have different points of strength and I always take it into consideration. Right now I have one student with learning disability and it's a pleasure to see how hard he tries and I help him to adjust to his learning journey. I had a student before who had a strong interest in Russian history and we found a few study books which were based on historical facts but were helpful for her to improve her Russian. So I always listen to my students and discuss their interests and base my lessons on this information.

I had a student who were in gifted programs in school, it was a rewarding experience for both of us, I hope. She was very much into history, so I made sure out lessons were based on her interests and we're offering books and websites to enrich her in this area.

It was a few kids in different schools where I worked with ADHD, but it was controlled with medicine. I don't have an experience to teach them on line, but open to give it a try if it comes to this.

My son was 10 when he started Russian lessons with Natalya. Most tutors did not want to take on a child that wanted to learn Russian with no previous exposure to the language. Natalya took on the task and he enjoys his weekly lessons with her, and is he is far exceeding my expectations with the language. Russian is one of the most difficult languages to learn, especially for an English only speaker. Always on time, very accessible, son really enjoys having her as his Russian tutor.
