OpenLearn is The Open University’s free learning platform, offering hundreds of short courses, articles, and videos across subjects from psychology and computing to art history and business. Each course includes clearly marked difficulty levels, estimated study time, and optional quizzes or statements of participation. Motivated older teens and adults appreciate the academic yet accessible content, which can serve as a bridge to more formal study. It’s best for independent learners who can manage their own pacing and reading. Credits generally don’t transfer, but the learning itself is substantial. Using OpenLearn courses as part of a gap year, elective, or parent continuing-education plan can enrich a homeschool program.
