ReadWorks is a nonprofit reading site that provides thousands of leveled nonfiction and fiction passages with built-in vocabulary and comprehension questions. Teachers and homeschool parents can search by grade, lexile, topic, or skill, then print or assign passages digitally, making it easy to add content-area reading to science or social studies units. Developed by educators to support evidence-based reading instruction, ReadWorks is entirely free, funded by donations and grants. Families value the high-quality texts, audio options for some passages, and the ability to differentiate for multiple learners. The interface is more functional than flashy, but for cost-effective comprehension practice, it’s hard to beat.
