As a child, my parents gifted me with puzzles, sudoku, and word search that made me fall in love with solving problems. They bought me books on mathematics, which fueled my passion for the subject. Thus, in high school, I taught theories and shortcuts to my peers. I absolutely loved it when they began to realize that the problems weren't as difficult as they seemed.

In university, I majored in chemical engineering and started working professionally as an English, mathematics, and chemistry tutor before my freshman year. I graduated top of my class with Latin honors and mainly tutor online to share my knowledge and expertise globally. I want to show students that learning is a continuous process, and that it is all right to make mistakes. During my free time, I read webtoons!

When students are meeting me for the first time, I usually start with an icebreaker. For younger students, I either perform magic tricks or math puzzles to keep them excited. For older students, I initiate small talk and try to find similar interests to make them feel comfortable. Afterwards, we transition to the lesson proper.

I believe learning comes easier with practice. My lectures are divided into three parts: (1) theories, (2) guided learning, and (3) sample problems. I start by teaching the theories and concept behind the topic -- not just the "what", but also the "why". This is linked to real-world examples they could relate to. Then, I offer lots of problems where I provide step-by-step solutions and guide them in solving for the answer. Finally, to test their knowledge, I usually provide 3 - 5 questions that they would work on by themself during the lesson. While they are solving, I like to quiz them and ask questions such as, "What should we do first?", "How do we solve this problem?", and "What do we know?" among others.

After the lesson, I like to give 1-page summaries on the lecture and more worksheets they could practice on.

I started tutoring informally during middle school where I would teach my younger siblings. They mostly struggled with languages such as Filipino since we grew up in an English-speaking household. Often, I would give them shortcuts when learning the language. In high school, I would tutor mathematics and science to my peers, and, before university, I formally began my career as a tutor.

I have more than five years of professional experience where I was hired to teach chemistry and pre-calculus to lower year-levels and other students of the same age. Having graduated top of my class, I was also paid for exam preparation in coding, Arduino robotics, and general mathematics. In university, I shifted to online tutoring to accommodate more students given my schedule. This cut down on transportation costs and time to commute. I taught K1 - K12 in Brighterly, which mainly focused on the US curriculum. I also worked as a freelancer at PearDeck, where I tutored university and continued education students in chemistry and calculus. For coding, I tutored Canadian kids on Roblox game design, visual programming, and Scratch. Ultimately, since I have always loved languages, I also taught conversational and business English to Koreans at the B1 to C2 level.

Subject Expertise

My mission

My mission is to help students feel confident and capable by making learning clear, engaging, and tailored to their needs. I work to create a positive, supportive space where students can grow at their own pace and actually enjoy what they’re learning.

My Story

When I was younger, my father built a library for our family. He was an avid reader and bought works on all subjects. I remember the first math book I genuinely enjoyed -- it was Barron's "Trigonometry the Easy Way". I had no idea what it was or what use triangles were in real life when I started. The book was easy to understand and focused on blending storytelling with theory and tons of worksheets for us to go through. While I had always loved solving puzzles, building structures, and learning new things, this book made me love mathematics and, as a result, I developed a passion for teaching in a similar style. It taught me that difficult concepts can be simplified, and I wanted to do that for learners struggling with their academics.

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

No, I have never worked with kids with 2e before, so I cannot guarantee that I would be a good fit for them. While I have experience working with ADHD and autism, I have not yet encountered a 2e kid. I believe others have better expertise in this matter :))

Yes, I have tutored students from K1 to university level and can quickly adjust the difficulty of the examples and problems based on the child's learning level. I also have experience teaching conversational English, which may be helpful in this case.

Yes, I have tutored students with ADHD before, particularly K3 to K7. I make sure to get to know the kid for the first few minutes and adjust the lesson accordingly. For example, we incorporate games, exercises, fun activities, and art based on their interests. I also make sure to take breaks from time to time so as not to make them feel tired.

No, I believe I may not be the right one for this job. While I have tutored students with autism before, I believe this is not in my expertise and I cannot guarantee that I will be a good fit.

No, I have never worked with kids with dyslexia before, so I cannot guarantee that I would be a good fit for them.

No, I have never worked with kids with sensory processing challenges before, so I cannot guarantee that I would be a good fit for them.
