Science is Weird

The Mystery of Axolotls

Saturday, July 26 at 4-6pm EST on Zoom
For ages 8-15 (ish)

All creatures, except one, grow up.

Children become adults, tadpoles become frogs, and caterpillars become butterflies. But one type of salamander — the axolotl — refuses to change. They stay in their baby form forever… yet they somehow thrive! They heal quickly from harm — they can even grow back entire arms and legs. What the heck? What makes these adorable amphibians so unique? And why, despite their abilities, are they critically endangered?

In this hyper-interactive, two-hour workshop, Brandon will guide you through this mystery. Bring your wildest ideas as we dive into evolution, Aztec history, and developmental biology to discover the scientific marvels of this cute-but-slimy pet. This is designed for kids 8–15, but parents are welcome, too — and afterwards, Brandon will be sharing a few insights about how you can help your kids feel that science matters
