Toastmasters

Recommended Ages

Intended primarily for adults; mature high school students may participate through special youth programs.

For motivated teens who want to get comfortable speaking in front of real people—not just a webcam—Toastmasters offers a structured, supportive path. This international nonprofit runs local and online clubs where members practice public speaking and leadership through prepared speeches, short impromptu talks, and feedback sessions. The program is built around a series of projects that gradually increase in complexity, helping speakers refine everything from organization and eye contact to storytelling and persuasion. Parents like that clubs are multigenerational, giving teens a chance to learn alongside adults in a respectful setting, and that costs are relatively low compared to private coaching. Not every club is geared toward youth, so it’s worth emailing ahead to ask about teen members and expectations. With regular attendance and practice, many students see dramatic gains in confidence that spill over into debates, presentations, and interviews.

Members pay a one-time new-member fee of $20 plus international dues of $45 every six months; individual clubs may also charge small local dues.
