Wild Reading

No reviews

Wild Reading is a nature-inspired reading and language arts curriculum that moves literacy beyond the table and into the outdoors. Lessons combine phonics, fluency work, and comprehension with movement, storytelling, and sensory experiences like scavenger hunts and storytelling walks. Developed by Discover Wild Learning, it was created to support kids who learn best when their bodies are engaged and who feel calmer outside. Parents appreciate the detailed guides, simple material lists, and the way reading practice becomes part of play rather than a battle. It’s an excellent fit for elementary students who are wiggly, anxious about reading, or drawn to nature. Families in extreme climates may need to adapt some activities for indoor spaces, but the core ideas still translate. For best value, reuse the framework with library books and your local landscape, returning to favorite activities as reading skills grow.

Our mission

The mission of Wild Learning is to harness the natural world as a vibrant classroom, empowering children to develop essential academic skills—like reading, writing, and math—through hands-on, outdoor, and place-based learning experiences. By blending nature-based exploration with structured, science-aligned instruction, the program seeks to increase engagement, foster multisensory learning, support diverse learners, and cultivate a deeper connection to both subject matter and the environment. It aims to make education more meaningful, motivating, and mentally enriching by integrating core academics into real-world outdoor contexts.

FAQ: Additional Details about Wild Reading

Our top choice overall. Also best choice for ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and of course, physically active children, and of course, plant and animal lovers! Child archetype: Loves nature, the outdoors, arts and crafts, and spending quality time with mom, dad or caregivers. Ideal for physically active children with short attention spans, as well as advanced and focused children.

Not a fit for: Children under the age of five who have expressed no interest in reading and have no phonemic awareness or parents/caregivers who don’t have 30-40 minutes a day to participate in reading lessons with kids.

Wild Learning fills a much needed void in the homeschooling space for a multisensory curriculum that's evidence-based and easy for families to follow. I know Rachel well and highly recommend her program to any family seeing a hands-on curriculum their child will love.
