My approach to teaching is student-centered. I tailor each lesson to students’ individual learning styles and needs to help them stay engaged and successful. I also use purposeful questioning techniques to encourage deeper thinking and strengthen students’ cognitive development.

I hold a Master’s degree in Bilingual/Bicultural Education from Texas State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. In addition, I am authorized in the state of California to teach in both English and Spanish through a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with a Bilingual Authorization in Spanish

I began tutoring my neighbors at an early age. In college, I tutored classmates in precalculus and calculus. While working as an elementary school teacher, I also tutored some of my students for additional support. Since 2017, I have tutored independently in the Bay Area and through online platforms such as Wyzant and TakeLessons.

My mission

My mission as a tutor is to empower learners of all ages and backgrounds to reach their full potential by providing personalized, student-centered instruction. I am inspired by the opportunity to help students build confidence, strengthen foundational skills, and develop strategies that allow them to succeed academically and beyond. Whether supporting young children in reading and math, guiding language learners in English or Spanish, or helping students with learning differences and gifted learners, I focus on meeting each student where they are, celebrating their strengths, and providing the tools they need to grow and thrive.

My Story

I grew up in a bilingual household at a time when mixing languages was often seen as a deficiency. I was fortunate to have teachers who recognized my strengths and believed in my potential, which helped me become a mechanical engineer. Along the way, I met many students like me—brilliant learners who struggled to express their talents, whether because of language barriers, learning differences, or other obstacles.

In 2008, when I began teaching in Texas, I saw myself in many of my students: bilingual learners trying to navigate multiple languages, students with exceptional thinking skills who couldn’t always express themselves verbally, and children who performed below their potential on tests despite their intelligence. Working with these students showed me how much I could help them find their voice and thrive.

Since then, I have dedicated my career to empower students of all backgrounds, helping them build confidence, strengthen foundational skills, and develop strategies to succeed academically and beyond. I focus on celebrating each student’s strengths, meeting them where they are, and providing the tools they need to grow and reach their full potential.

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

One of the reasons I began teaching was because throughout my life I met many brilliant people with ADHD who struggled to concentrate and complete their schoolwork, and I wanted to make a difference. Throughout my teaching career, I’ve worked with students with a wide range of learning differences, including ADHD, autism, selective mutism, intellectual disabilities, and oppositional defiant disorder, as well as gifted and talented learners.

My approach is to meet each student where they are, recognize their strengths, and build on them to increase confidence and motivation. For example, one of my students with an intellectual disability had an exceptional talent for drawing, so I incorporated art-based activities that allowed him to shine and connect with classmates.

I also have experience supporting gifted students through differentiated instruction. I completed graduate-level coursework focused on the social and emotional development of gifted learners and curriculum design for advanced students.

Currently, I work with a college student with ADHD, focusing on study skills, organization, and focus strategies, as well as a high school student taking AP classes who experiences anxiety and imposter syndrome. With both, I provide tools for self-management, confidence-building, and long-term academic planning.

have experience working with twice-exceptional students who are both gifted and have learning differences. My approach is to recognize their strengths while providing structured support for areas of challenge, helping them stay engaged and confident in their learning.

I have extensive experience supporting gifted students. I differentiate assignments, encourage creativity, and provide opportunities for independent research and problem-solving. I also completed graduate-level coursework in social and emotional development for gifted learners.

I have extensive experience working with students with ADHD, both in person and online. I use strategies such as breaking tasks into smaller steps, frequent check-ins, interactive lessons, and movement breaks to help students stay focused and engaged. I also teach organization and study skills to support independent learning.

I have worked with students on the autism spectrum in elementary and college settings. I focus on meeting students where they are, providing clear structure, predictable routines, and individualized support to help them engage successfully in learning activities.

I have worked with students with dyslexia by emphasizing multi-sensory reading strategies, guided practice, and structured literacy instruction to strengthen decoding, comprehension, and fluency.

I have worked with students who have sensory processing challenges by creating a calm, predictable learning environment and incorporating sensory breaks or tools when needed to help students stay focused and engaged.
