My educational approach is getting to know the individual, and then tailoring lessons based on their personality and educational needs. This makes the lessons more effective and engaging for my students.

I have a Bachelors of Arts in Art and Design, and a minor in Biology from Bluefield University. I have a MFA in Communications, Media, and Film, and I have a MA in Cinema Studies from Savannah College of Art and Design. These courses have a lot of history interwoven into them, and you learn all of the -isms. For example: McCarthyism, Communism, Capitalism, Conservatism, Imperialism, etc.

I was certified in the state of Georgia for Special Education, but I am getting recertified as a Literacy Specialist. However, I think I will get the Special Education certification again. I am also certified with TESOL/TEFL for ESL/ELL learners.

I have been an online tutor since 2016. Before that I taught in traditional brick and mortar schools as a teacher. I have since taken up the task of also tutoring my friends and family.

My mission

My mission is to enable independent and happy students because happy people make a happy earth. Miserable people do the opposite; they commit crimes that negatively impact people. Education is a lot like clorox; it kills the germs, and it makes everything clean.

My Story

I am just a kid from New Jersey with dyslexia. My classmates moved lightyears ahead of me, and I was always behind. Nobody bothered to see if I had a learning disability. My teacher told my mother to put me into the classes for slow students. However, my mother was my greatest champion, and she said, "no." She didn't know that I am dyslexic, but she also knew that I didn't belong in those classes. My mother stayed up countless nights to help me complete my work, and now look at me! What if my mother had an educator that took the time to really see me? That would have helped her so much!

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

I have dyslexia and I help many children with cognitive differences. In addition, I have taught quite a few children with dyslexia learn how to read. I recently had a wonderful student that was two grades behind in her reading skills, but her mother enrolled her into a free literacy program during the summer. For the entire summer, we worked together twice a week, and by the end of the summer, she was on par with her current grade level.

Her mother was so happy with the progress because before her child was only able to recognize a few words, but now she was reading whole books. She was worried because the summer literacy program was free, and if she wanted to continue during the school year, she would have to pay.

In response, after my session was completed with my student, I would ask her to get her mother, and I taught the mother how to teach literacy to a child with dyslexia. After that, I provided her with some books that had guided instruction, and I taught the mother how to use the guided instruction in the books.

I am happy to report that the student continues to do well. Many parents worry about these learning differences, and how they will impact their children. I sit down and talk with the parents, and tell them about my experiences as a child, and what I wish my teachers and parents could have done differently for me because when I was a child teachers were not trained in spotting dyslexia. Lastly, I tell the parents about my GPA, the countries that I have lived in, and about my other accomplishments so that they know their child is going to thrive!

I have five years of experience working with 2e kids. I excel at this because I, too, was a 2e student. The ability to help 2e children is extremely important because they can be misunderstood. It is my goal to bridge any and all gaps for my students.

I have eight years of experience with gifted children. Many gifted children feel overwhelmed by school and their parents. It is common for parents to give extra work to their children when they are gifted, and these gifted children start shutting down because they had to work all day at school, and now they have to do more work at home. They want to be children, and we need to let them be children. As such, when they have sessions with me, I learn about their interests, and then I create tailored lessons that bolster and advance them, but it doesn't feel like work or studying.

These children are much like gifted children, but they need more things to challenge them. They often need lessons on how to socialize so they can connect with their peers better. Sometimes they are gifted and they are great at being social, but this is rare. My goal is to challenge the student in a fun and engaging manner, and make sure that there are no weak areas.

For all of my students, I create a tabula rasa (white slate) for them. This is especially helpful for my students with ADHD because they can create their own worlds, but within parameters. Each student can build and customize their world. However, they need money to do so, and the only way to get money is to complete their social and academic tasks. For example, I like my students to circle how they feel before moving on to their warm-up. When they start and finish a task with thoughtfulness and effort, they receive money in their banks, and they have the opportunity to grow their digital world.

I have ten years of experience with autistic children ranging from high functioning autism to low functioning autism from the ages of 5 - 16.

I have been teaching students with Dyslexia for 8 years. I am great at this because I have it, too. I know just what they need to read like a pro.
