Our mission

These days, we have access to more information than ever before, but lack the ability to properly evaluate it. We can interact with more people than ever, but have trouble communicating effectively. Critikid's goal is to give kids and teens the skills they need to rationally think about and discuss controversial and complex issues without telling them the conclusions they should draw.

Our story

As a science teacher with a philosophy background, I saw firsthand that children not only understand ideas like logical fallacies and cognitive biases, but they’re excited to learn about them. I started Critikid after noticing how few resources existed to help teach kids about this stuff. With my husband handling the web design, I hired a freelance animator and released the first course, Fallacy Detectors. Since then, Critikid has expanded to include many more resources, but it is still a small, bootstrapped family project.

Imagine your child sitting down at the computer and clicking "play." A short, three-minute video begins: animated characters aboard a spaceship launch into a story, and one of them makes a reasoning mistake. Your child leans in, listening to the dialogue and watching the scene unfold, then answers a few quiz questions to spot the fallacy. Next, they’re asked to create their own short story where a character commits the same type of fallacy. Then it’s on to the next lesson, where the adventure continues with a new fallacy and fresh challenges. At the end of the adventure, kids complete a chat-style quiz that pulls together everything they’ve learned in the journey. For families who want to extend learning, parents can use the matching lesson plans and worksheets filled with extra examples, activities, and discussion prompts to make fallacies part of real-world conversations.

Critikid is a digital platform with self-paced video lessons, interactive activities, and printable resources. Kids can log in on their own or with a parent and work through courses. Each course includes built-in activities and quizzes. Parents and educators often use the lesson plans and worksheets to integrate the material into a broader curriculum. Her work draws on an unusual pairing of credentials: a B.Sc. in Biology and a B.A./M.A. in Philosophy. Stephanie also teaches critical thinking to adults through social media (@critikid). Her mission is to make critical thinking education accessible and engaging for people of all ages.
