I grew up in Southeastern Ohio. I had a number of teachers who made learning fun. One of my junior high teachers had us build Gettysburg using a sand base and monopoly houses. I wanted to be a teacher from a young age. My bachelor's degree is in Elementary Education with an emphasis on Math. My Master's is in Special Education. I have found teaching online very rewarding as I see students gain confidence and new skills as well as seeming to find learning fun.

Monday thru Friday 8 am to 3 pm Saturday and Sunday 8 am to 10 pm EST

I work to find out where a student's skills are and then teach new skills while incorporating skills they already have. My goal is for students to feel confident and enjoy learning.

Masters of Education in Special Education. Certified in Ohio Education of the handicapped. I had an elementary k-8 certificate that I let expire and supervision certificate I let expire.

I have taught preschool, elementary multihandicapped student, 4th grade and junior high have worked as learning disability tutor for students kindergarten to 5th grade.

Subject Expertise

My mission

My mission when tutoring students if for them to gain new skills while enjoying learning. I like to build on their interests. If they are a student who likes sports I find books about sports and relate other subjects to sports.

My Story

After I retired from teaching I decided I missed students. I signed up for online tutoring and really enjoyed it. I have been in the education field for 40 years and taught students from Prek to 8th grade. Elementary is my favorite age to work. I have 3 brothers and 1 sister and am the middle child. My sister homeschooled all 4 of her children. I have been to Nicaragua on a mission trip over 10 times. My daughter and son have gone also.

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

My daughter who is 29 has a intellectual disability and mental health issues. I have students with autism in both my preschool classroom and multidisablity classroom. My son has ADHD.

Tutoring is a good fit for most children because it can be varied to meet the students needs. I am currently tutoring online a student who has a diagnosis of autism. At the present his mom sits with him , sessions are 30 minutes and no activity is more than 10 minutes.

I do not have experience with gifted.

I think that tutoring can be very benefial to profoundly gifted students because the skills can be expanded up and applied to a variety of scenarios.

tutoring is very beneficial for children who have ADHD. One of the students I tutor online moves in his chair constantly while we are in a tutor session. I have worked hard to keep him engage and his reading level went from being tested at a 1st grade level to 4th. Most of what has worked is finding books to read about soccer and other things he has interest.

Yes tutoring can benefit students on the autsim spectrum.

Very Smart

He was just over all qualified. I watched him teach and then I tried it. I like the way he explains things, he helps my child understand why they got them wrong. What we liked: His wanting to help other people.

Caring and effective

I met Carol through the Early Intervention Program with Meigs County Job and Family Services. She visited my home on a bi-weekly basis to set goals and evaluate my child's progress in early childhood development. Each visit, she worked with my child on his goals and provided feedback on his outcomes, as well as made suggestions for activities we could do between visits to strengthen his abilities. Carol offered fantastic support and would also check in with me between visits and answer any questions I had regarding my child's development. I was very satisfied with her services. She isn't just great at what she does, teaching children; she is compassionate and truly cares for the child's whole being. She is personable, doesn't judge, and has a heart for children. I could tell she really cared about my child and me. Carol had to cancel occasionally and wasn't always on time, but she was always sure to communicate that to me in advance. I was a foster parent for Meigs County and had multiple children placed in my home I understand that children come from all walks of life and believe Carol does too. That kind of understanding enables Carol to excel in her role as a tutor. I also have experience teaching life skills to first-year college students. I know what it takes to teach a diverse group of students who come of all different backgrounds. It can take a lot of patience, acceptance, and compassion, which Carol has.
